What is a certified podologist

A Certified Podologist (C.Pod.) is a designation that has been created by the North American School of Podology which includes advanced training and education for professionals in the following areas:

  • Infection control
  • Advanced footcare
  • Gait analysis and biomechanics of the foot and lower leg

A C.Pod. applies advanced footcare techniques and infection control to deliver a client specific footcare treatment. They are also trained to perform a foot and lower leg evaluation which supports the client’s treatment plan and provides the client with a better understanding of their foot care needs. This information is also used to design an appropriate foot care treatment plan for the client.

In addition, the study of nail and skin conditions, enables the C.Pod. to deliver a safe and quality footcare treatment service for clients who experience any one or more of the following conditions:

  • diabetics;
  • cancer;
  • nail fungus;
  • severe dry and cracked skin; as well as
  • numerous other nail and skin conditions.

A C.Pod. will also provide a home care regime with the proper products with instructions to obtain the maximum benefit for a client’s feet. Recommendation of exercises which will benefit the client by strengthening the leg and foot is the final component.
