Involuted Toenail
An involuted nail is excessive curvature of the nail. It is caused by
- Wearing shoes that are too narrow
- Compression stockings
- If one pronates a lot, it puts pressure on the toe (pushing the nail into the fold)
Symptoms:
- Red and inflamed in the nail folds (if infected)
- Often painful due to the presence of calluses or corns in nail fold
- May lead to ingrown toenails due to curvature of nail
Management:
- BS Brace application
- Trimming the sides of the nail and removing the specula (piece of nail left in nail fold)
- Wearing proper fitting shoes
